COHASSET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Wednesday night basketball game between hosting Cohasset High School and Excel High School from Boston was cut short after a player from the visiting team allegedly punched a referee in the face midgame.

The Cohasset Police Department said officers were deployed to the high school's gymnasium for reports of the assault. Upon arrival, officers say they discovered that a 17-year-old from Excel High School had hit the sports official, who did not require medical treatment.

Officials say there wasn't any altercation following the unsportsmanlike conduct, and that no Cohasset players were involved.
