BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The roster of Boston's newest professional sports team was announced Thursday at Peter Welch's Gym in South Boston.

The Boston Butchers will compete in the Team Combat League, a professional boxing league that consists of 12 teams from across the country.

Boston's team is made up of 24 male and female boxers from the New England area.

Assistant General Manager Pat Sullivan said his team is training out of Nonantum Boxing Gym in Newton and includes world ranked heavyweight Cassius Chaney and four-time national champion Amelia Moore. "Seeing that these boxers train together and help each other with training, it's been so refreshing and such a different way to look at boxing," he said.

Sullivan added that all of the Boston team members are locals. "They grew up here. They have their families here. And they train here."

The Butcher’s first match is April 11 against the D.C. Destroyers at Oceanside Revere, 8 p.m.
