BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new professional sports team in Boston hopes to pack a punch.

A team of professional boxers called the Boston Butchers will join the Team Combat League (TCL). There will be a press conference at Peter Welch’s Gym in South Boston to announce the full roster on April 4 at 1:00 P.M.

The team trains out of the Nonantum Boxing Club, which is located in Newton, Mass. The roster will be composed of both male and female fighters from the New England area, including the World Boxing Association’s seventh-ranked heavyweight Cassius Chaney.

Each TCL match-up features two teams and 24 fights across eight different weight classes in both men’s and women’s boxing. In each team competition, the team that scores the most total points gets the victory.

Licensed judges score the bouts on the 10-Point Must System, meaning the winner of the round gets 10 points and the loser can only receive a maximum of nine points. The losing fighter also would have one point deducted for each time they were knocked down.

The Boston Butcher’s first match against the D.C. Destroyers will take place on April 11 at 8:00 P.M. at Oceanside Revere.
