Boston’s 3-Week Reopening Delay Has Tourism Industry Concerned

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The city of Boston is delaying most of the state’s reopening timeline by three weeks, and that has some in the tourism industry concerned.

The state is set to fully reopen on Aug. 1. However, Boston will not fully reopen until Aug. 22.

Chris Crompton, general manager of Old Town Trolley Tours, said that means an even shorter window for business during what would normally be their busy season.

“We are essentially an open-air tour much like the ducks; much like the harbor cruises,” Crompton said. “The harbor cruises in particular, those people are outside in fresh air. They’re looking at whales, they’re looking at the view. And yet, we’re still restricted to 50% capacity until Aug. 22. It’s difficult to understand the rationale for that.”

Acting Mayor Kim Janey said the city is taking the right measures at the right time to protect businesses and residents.
