MILTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Children ages 14 and up got to learn about what it takes to be in law enforcement at an event hosted by the Boy Scouts Spirit of Adventure Council on Saturday.
The event known as Law Enforcement Explorer Day had kids learning about different aspects of what law enforcement officers do. They participated in a mock crime scene, learned about emergency services and motor vehicle stops, and got to look at some of the equipment utilized by agencies.
Methuen Police Officer Jeff Torrisi spoke to WBZ's Suzanne Sausville about the crime scene he helped set up.
"Someone had just robbed a convenience store and took off and when he did he started dumping evidence," Torrisi said. "I have firearms, I have knives, I have small little bullets, and I also have one piece of evidence that I think everybody is going to overlook that is the most important piece."
The event featured officers from the Norfolk County Sherriff's Office, Massachusetts State Police and Environmental Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, Boston Police, and many more police departments from around the state.

Hannah Barrett from Winthrop attended the event and said the tumultuous past few years surrounding law enforcement has not deterred her from wanting to pursue a career in the field she's always wanted to be in.
"If anything it made me want to be a police officer even more," she said. "Feeling bad makes me want to help even more."
