Braintree High School Pushes Back First Day Because Of Asbestos

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – For the second time, the start of the school year at Braintree High School has been delayed.

About a week ago, the first day of school was pushed back because of a pip burst. Students were supposed to go back on Wednesday, but asbestos has delayed the school’s opening again.

“I heard about it last week, but I thought school was going to start today."

Justina was one of the many parents confused about the postponement. She remembered last week’s pipe burst, but said she was unaware about the asbestos in the school.

“I didn’t hear anything,” she said, “they told me they sent me an email, but I didn’t receive the email.”

On Tuesday, school officials sent out a notice by email, but some parents and staff did not get the message on time.

Braintree School Superintendent Jim Lee told WBZ NewsRadio that some tiles have been removed for testing and he plans on the school reopening Thursday.
