BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Braintree held a ceremony on Wednesday morning to honor the 60th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
The ceremony took place at Braintree Town Hall, located off of John F. Kennedy Drive. Officials in Braintree laid down a wreath and recited the speech JFK never got to deliver on the night of his murder. The Massachusetts native visited Braintree twice as a Senator.
Braintree’s first-ever Mayor Joseph Sullivan attended the ceremony to pay his respects to the fellow Irish Catholic.
“I think it’s just an important day to offer some reflection and thanks during this Thanksgiving period,” said Sullivan. “I was four years of age when President Kennedy was assassinated, but I remember it vividly.”
Current Braintree Mayor Charles Kokoros laid a bouquet of red, white and blue flowers at a photo of President Kennedy.
“When you look at his strength in leadership and how he brought people together, you know, it still resonates today,” said Kokoros.
