BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Despite complaints, Brookline’s only marijuana dispensary will continue to take in customers on a walk-in basis instead of by appointment only.
Business and homeowners have been complaining since NETA Brookline opened on Washington Street.
More than 200 people attended a town meeting Thursday night to discuss whether or not to require the dispensary to only take in customers who make an appointment.
“We live on this street. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. I’ve lived there for 14 years, I’ve never seen this stuff before,” one resident said at the meeting. “Now, after seven months, it’s regular occurrences.”
Opponents of the appointment-only policy argued it caused privacy concerns.
After a close vote, it was decided that appointments will not be needed. But, a compromise reached at the meeting requires that recreational marijuana dispensaries will have to operate for fewer hours a day. This, however, will not impact medical marijuana dispensaries.
Town officials are also set to consider creating a committee to study how effective the bylines and regulations are.
