BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues are similar teams — great goaltending, depth, well disciplined, and strong defensively.
But, they’ve taken very different roads to get to Monday night’s start of the Stanley Cup Final at TD Garden.
Boston was one of the top teams in the NHL for much of the year, and its playoff road has been pretty easy since the seven-game grind against Toronto in Round 1.
St. Louis was the worst team in the league in January, then went on an incredible run. But, each of its postseason series has lasted at least six games.
“I just believe that our guys that have been there, that have won a cup and have lost a cup, that should give us an edge. Some people disagree with that once you’re here, but I believe it will give us an edge. I think it’s helped us a lot this week in the preparation with all the downtime. And hopefully going forward that is an advantage for us,” Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said.
Seven Bruins have reached the Stanley Cup Final before this — five with Boston in 2011 and 2013. Only Blues right wing David Perron has reached this stage on the other side.
