Man Dies In Burlington Fire; Delivery Driver Helps Rescue Woman

BURLINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One person is dead and several others were injured after flames engulfed a home on Maryvale Road.

Crews from Burlington Fire and Police responded around 1 p.m., to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows of the home. There were reports of a person trapped inside.

A neighbor and a delivery truck driver helped rescue an elderly woman from the home before crews arrived. That woman was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The delivery driver and a Burlington Police officer were also hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters searched for the woman's son inside the home, but had to evacuate. They later found the son dead inside after knocking down the flames.

Officials said the fire appeared to have started in the area of the home where he was located. He has not yet been identified.

Crews from Billerica, Woburn, and Bedford also responded to the blaze, which is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal's office, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, and the Burlington Fire Department.
