CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – Three friends from Cambridge are giving old bicycles a second chance at life.

Since starting last summer, the group called Cambridge Bike Give Back has recycled and passed out over 340 bicycles.

Lonnell Wells is president, CEO and one of the founders. He said they accept bikes from anyone and from any place.

“We got bikes from transit police, from Harvard University, from MIT Police, Boston University so it’s looking good right now."

Wells was inspired to give back to his community after the start of the pandemic and after the death of George Floyd. The group has increased their operations since setting up shop at the CambridgeSide Galleria Mall.

“We’re producing bikes much faster,” Wells said. “We have more volunteers coming by. It’s just looking really nice.”
