NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A New Hampshire family's vast collection of vintage baseball cards and comic books, some of which date back more than 100 years, will go up for sale May 4th in an online auction.

Proceeds will go to the University of New Hampshire Scholarship Fund, according to auction company Paul McInnis LLC.

"Doing this over 50 years, handling antiques, I haven't come across a good collection of comics or baseball cards," Paul McInnis said. "This is the first."

Daniel O'Brien of Manchester, N.H. started the collection more than 100 years ago.

O'Brien's family gifted the pieces to the University of New Hampshire when his son, Harry, died in 2022 at 94.

It includes Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner baseball cards. The lineup also features early issue Batman and Superman comic books as well as collectible tobacco cards.

McInnis said one Babe Ruth card could attract bids up to $20,000.

Pre-bidding will run until the auction's official May 4th start date.
