Changes In Vaccine Rollout Causes Frustration and Confusion

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Seniors and people with underlying conditions are frustrated and confused by the process of getting their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The state’s distribution plan has changed, so now the mass vaccination sites are getting more doses than local boards of health—such as the senior centers.

Ted Freedman, who received his first dose of the vaccine at the local senior center, says “he wished he lived in New Hampshire.”

While Freeman is angry with how Massachusetts is handling the vaccine distribution, he has been assured that he will be able to receive his second dose at the same location.

Meanwhile, Gov. Charlie Baker said people are having overall positive experiences at the large state-owned sites.

“People are in and out in 30 minutes, and people think the experience is terrific,” Baker stated.

Massachusetts has seven mass vaccination sites: Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Fenway Park in Boston, the Eastfield Mall in Springfield, the Natick Mall, the DoubleTree in Danvers and the former Circuit City in Dartmouth.

Currently, according to the Center for Disease Control, the state is ranked first for total first doses administered per capita among states— with 5 million people.
