Chelsea Teenager Held Without Bail On Murder Charge

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – A 17-year-old female was held without bail in the stabbing death of another woman in Chelsea.

Ava Najafi, 17, was brought into Chelsea District Court Monday afternoon accused of murdering 19-year-old Cyndell Rodriguez.

Chelsea Police Department said they responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Garfield Avenue just before 9:30 pm on August 19.

When officers arrived, they found Rodriguez suffering from knife wounds to her throat and chest.

Rodriguez was brought to Massachusetts General Hospital for emergency treatment but later died from her injuries.

Detectives were able to determine that both individuals were involved in an altercation between two different groups that in the area. Prosecutors believe Najafi fatally stabbed the Rodriguez during the altercation.

Under Massachusetts law, juveniles starting at the age of 14 who are accused of murder are charged as adults and could potentially face life in prison with the possibility of parole.

At the request of the Assistant District Attorney David Bradley, a judge ordered that Najafi be held without bail while her case is still pending.

The investigation is still ongoing and no further information has been revealed at this time.
