CHICOPEE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A youth football coach from Dorchester was arrested after a brawl broke out at a game Saturday afternoon.
Daniel McCoy, 28 of Dorchester, is charged with disorderly conduct.
The fight happened on the football field at Chicopee Comprehensive High School around 12:55 p.m.
Parents reported a fight on the field to an officer working a detail at the game. That officer spotted a crowd of over 20 people attempting to hold back people who were fighting.
Because of the number of people on the field, police called in every unit they had in the city, including a K9 unit.
The department wrote on their Facebook page that McCoy was provoking other people to fight after players were alleged to have used racial slurs at one another.
"Coaches on both teams were attempting to find out and look into this matter, as neither teams coaches would tolerate this behavior," police said. "It was at this point the arrested party began provoking others to fight, and creating this disturbance."
The detail officer said four or five people were trying to hold back Coach McCoy, who he heard saying, "lets take this outside, lets see what you got."
Police said McCoy refused to talk to officers and continued yelling and disturbing those in attendance—so, fearing another fight might break out, they took him into custody.
McCoy was later released on his own personal recognizance.
