Coronavirus Hits Medford Nursing Home, Kills 54

MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Another devastating outbreak of coronavirus at a nursing home facility in Massachusetts has claimed 54 lives.

The Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford said another 117 residents and 42 employees have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Their parent company, Genesis Healthcare, told the Boston Globe that two staffers died from the virus as well, though one had not worked inside the facility since the pandemic began.

As of Monday, nearly 70,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Massachusetts according to the state's Department of Public Health. Of those, 4,090 people have died from the viral respiratory infection. More than half of those deaths were in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.
