BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed another 3,995 cases of COVID-19 Saturday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Commonwealth to 306,928.
The DPH also reported another 47 deaths among confirmed cases of the virus, upping the state's total confirmed death toll to 11,405. There have also been 252 deaths among probable cases.
More than 81,000 cases of the virus are estimated to be active in Massachusetts, according to the DPH. The state's seven-day average rate of positive coronavirus tests has risen to more than six percent.
There are currently 1,927 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the Commonwealth; more than double the seven-day average number of patients who were hospitalized with COVID-19 one month ago.
Both ICU and non-ICU beds are nearing capacity across the state. As the DPH reports, 85 percent of the state's 9,224 non-ICU hospital beds are currently occupied, and 73 percent of the state's 1,447 ICU beds are occupied.
91 percent of Boston's nearly 3,000 non-ICU beds are currently occupied, and for every other region in the state, non-ICU beds are at 80 percent capacity or more.
According to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, more than 17.5 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U.S., and more than 315,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
