BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two manhole explosions shattered the morning commute in downtown Boston early Thursday.

Boston Fire said the two fires erupted in front of 10 High Street around 9:00 AM, smashing the window of 10 High Street and causing both that building and 175 Federal Street across the street to be evacuated.

Boston Fire Chief Brian Tully told the press at about 10:00 AM that the explosions may have been caused by an "overpressure situation," and that officials were working on bringing the carbon monoxide levels down at both buildings.

One person was taken to Tufts Medical Center, according to Boston EMS. They later said the person taken to the hospital had non-life threatening injuries.

Mass. State Police closed down the Purchase Street and South Station ramps to I-93 South as the fire department dealt with cleanup.
