Earthquake Shakes Boston and Several Other Mass. Communities

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 4.8 magnitude earthquake, centered in Northern New Jersey, was felt across New England Friday morning, including most of Massachusetts.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. and was felt from Washington D.C. and as far north as Maine and Canada.

In Massachusetts, the earthquake was felt in various communities across the state including Chelmsford, Dedham, Malden, Shrewsbury, Plymouth and Northampton.

One listener in Boston told WBZ NewsRadio they felt the earthquake from the 14th floor of their building, and it felt like there was a washing machine running. Another listener in Shrewsbury said the earthquake set off car alarms.
