BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With the holidays here, lots of people are taking time off from work, as long as they are able to get their time-off requests approved.

The pandemic has created staffing issues that are lingering in the workplace.

Many businesses have suffered job losses and it's not as easy as it used to be for employers to grant worker requests for time off, especially during the holidays.

WBZ's James Rojas was out talking to workers who said for the most part they were able to get the time off they asked for, but there are challenges. "I work in IT, so the holidays are slower for us," she said. "As long as I let my boss know, I didn't have a hard time."

But this worker is in the health care industry which has been affected by massive job loss. "There are under-staffing issues where I work in health care, but we are managing it."

WBZ's James Rojas (@JamesRojasMMJ) reports.
