BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — One of the two FBI agents shot and killed in Florida while serving a warrant Tuesday is a graduate of Northeastern University.
Three other FBI agents were wounded and the suspect is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The agents were serving a search warrant to a man suspected of possessing child pornography at the time. Authorities say the suspect opened fire when they showed up at his home in Sunrise, Fla.
Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger graduated from Northeastern in 2000 with a degree in Criminal Justice. She joined the FBI in 2005 and she specialized in pursuing crimes against children.
Schwartzenberger has made headlines numerous times, especially over the last decade, for making cases in this line of work.
“This is a very dark day for the FBI,” FBI Miami Field Station chief George Piro said during a press conference on Tuesday. “Our sympathies are with their families and loved ones.”
Special Agent Schwartzeberger leaves behind a husband and two children.
