HANOVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Hanover High School teacher is out of a job after a video she created earlier this year, with comments about transgender people, resurfaced on social media.

Kari Macrae was let go from her job as a math and business teacher at Hanover High School. The video in question is a Tik Tok Macrae created in the spring while she was running for the Bourne School Committe.

In the video, Macrae said she was running to ensure students were not being taught that gender is a choice. "It's not right, and it's defiantly not speaking to a community that is supposed to be inclusive and accepting," said Macrae.

In addition, she faced backlash in Bourne where the school committee there held a hearing last month over whether she should be removed.

Macrae claimed both school districts are being motivated by politics. "If you're not 100 percent all in on every single thing they agree with, then you're against them and I think that's really unfair," said Macrae.

Macrae had been on administrative leave at Hanover High but was fired in October.
