HANSON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Hanson Police Department asked for the public's help in identifying a suspicious man that was reported to have been approaching children Saturday morning and asking them to get inside his van.

Police arrived to the area 500 Whitman Street where they say a caller reported that their son and friend under 12-years-old were approached by a man with a short buzz-cut haircut and glasses, estimated to be between the age of 35 to 40-years-old.

According to police, the man allegedly asked the children if they wanted any toys and when they responded "no," instructed them to just get into his van. The children fled the area and ran home to tell a parent, officials said.

The HPD contacted a neighbor who caught the suspect's white work van on security footage, which police say could be a Ford E-Series E-250 cargo van with roof racks and running boards. The children told police the van was rusted and had writing on the back, and said that the suspect had doubled back after passing them to speak with them.

Surveillance video shows the van stayed in the area for a couple minutes before interacting with the children and heading off towards East Washington Street.
