CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Harvard University released a letter Saturday, detailing that for the first three weeks of January much of their learning and work will be remote.

In a statement, school officials said that the decision came as a countermeasure to the growing presence of the COVID-19 cases both locally and nationwide. Some essential programs will continue with in-person meetings like laboratory or patient-centered clinical operations. Only students with authorization from their school will be allowed to return to campus during the three-week period next month.

Despite the circumstances, officials said that online library services, book request services, and some library facilities will remain open during the three-week period.

Harvard previously announced on Thursday that eligible affiliates will be required to receive their COVID-19 booster shots during the spring semester.
