Haverhill Bus Driver Charged With OUI In Crash

HAVERHILL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Haverhill bus driver was arrested Thursday night after police say he crashed a school van into a guardrail while under the influence of drugs—with a student on board.

Shawn McCarthy faces several charges, including OUI drugs and reckless endangerment of a child.

The 13-year-old student passenger suffered minor injuries.

The owner of the bus company told WBZ Newsradio that McCarthy is suspended without pay. He said McCarthy was a "good worker" who had no problems before the OUI, and that McCarthy claimed to have low blood sugar.

McCarthy was released on $1,000 bail.
