BOSTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The National Hockey League has named a fifth-grade teacher from Hingham as one of three finalists for it's Most Valuable Teacher Award.
Joan Kilban is a veteran teacher at Plymouth River Elementary School. She's been incorporating the Future Goals program in her lesson plans, which uses hockey to demonstrate how things kids learn in the classroom can be applied in the real world.

"It's an interactive and fun hockey themed learning program that teaches STEM," Kilban explains. She's been using the program in her classroom for six years. She says her students' projects have been pretty cool, "My students had an opportunity through the program to design hockey pads for Tukka Rask."
Voting is ongoing on the NHL website through this Friday.
Kilban says it would be an honor to win, but that in the meantime, she has a message for her kids who have been out of the classroom: "You are rocking remote learning and I am so unbelievably proud of you, and I miss you and I love you all."
