HOPKINTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio)— Residents of Hopkinton are ready to welcome back the runners of the Boston Marathon after the pandemic cancelled the race in 2020.

In an effort to show the town's appreciation, a group filmmakers helped put together a video to commemorate the marathon's return for 2021.The short film titled “Dear Runners: A Marathon Love Letter From Hopkinton, Massachusetts" features narration, photos of residents with signs celebrating the marathon, and video messages from residents welcoming runners back to the town where the marathon begins.

"We've missed you so much since you've been away and we're so excited to have you back," one resident said in their video message.

Local filmmakers, the Hopkinton Freedom Team, local station HCAM-TV, and the 26.2 Foundation all helped put together the film. Producer Karen Webb spoke with WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe (@KimWBZ) about the film.

"We're very excited to be able to host the start of the marathon again and we really wanted to send out that message of love and support," Webb said.

The film will air on HCAM-TV and be shown at local and marathon-related events as well as shared on social media, according to the Hopkinton Independent.

The Boston Marathon takes place on Oct. 11.
