BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two men charged in the attempted robbery of a Hyde Park bank over the weekend are set to be arraigned Monday in West Roxbury District Court.
Paul Whooten, 56 of Hyde Park, is charged with armed bank robbery, while Richard Berger, 56, is charged with intent to rob a bank while armed.
Boston Police said Whooten went into the Rockland Trust Savings Bank on Truman Parkway around 1:35 p.m. Saturday, wearing a mask and holding a gun, and demanded the teller fill a bag with money.
Police said a detail officer working outside found out about the robbery and called for backup, then chased Whooten when he fled the bank on foot. Officers caught Whooten a short distance down Truman Parkway.
When Whooten was handcuffed, police said, they found that his gun was a replica, and not real.
Meanwhile, Milton Police arrested Berger after seeing him speeding away from the robbery scene, "weaving in and out of traffic."
