LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Three yellow wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube men are standing guard on the island at Goldfish Pond in Lynn.

The Goldfish Pond Association installed the tube men to scare away hundreds of geese and ducks.

"It’s working, it’s keeping the geese and ducks away," said association president Trish Greene Tuesday. "There are a few there; they won’t get on the island."

Greene told WBZ NewsRadio that the impetus for the tube men came from the abundance of bird droppings in the pond. The association took inspiration from a ghost inflatable that was placed on the pond's island as a Halloween decoration, which wound up scaring away birds.

"We put this thing up and they took off," Greene said. "They didn’t just leave the island and walk away, they flew, it was crazy. So we thought we were on to something there."

Greene noted that the tube men's appearance is not only practical, but it gives the pond a festive atmosphere.

"I love it, especially when you drive by and you see them going," Greene said. "It’s an eye-turn. They work that way to get people’s attention."
