LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — General Electric workers in Lynn, Mass. want military jet engines to continue to be made in the United States.
Members of the IUE-CWA Local 201 protested outside Congressman Seth Moulton’s Salem office on Wednesday. IUE-CWA Local 201 President Adam Kaszynski said a recent trade deal between the U.S. and India is threatening their jobs.
“What I would say is in jeopardy is the production of the F414 line. It could be hundreds of jobs. The F414 jet engine has been made in Lynn for a long time. India negotiated a trade deal with the United States that would allow them to have the full, complete transfer of technology, so everything from the component manufacturing to the assembly and test of the F414 engine, for their military,” said Kaszynski.
IUE-CWA Local 201 Vice President Jeff Cruz said the military technology transfer deal threatens the community and national security.
“Take into account the impact that it has on the jobs of the community, the economic impact it’s going to have on that community and the impact that this has on U.S. manufacturing and the national security of the United States,” said Cruz.
In a statement, Moulton said he will continue to advocate for keeping jobs in Lynn. WBZ NewsRadio reached out to GE but have not gotten a response.
