MELROSE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts Congresswoman and Democratic House Whip Katherine Clark expressed the need for transparency as the Department of Justice investigates sets of classified documents found in the home and former office of President Joe Biden.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to investigate the documents, found at the Penn Biden Center in Washington D.C. and the President's home in Wilmington, Delaware. The documents found at the Biden Center date back to the President's time as Vice President. Rep. Clark told WBZ's Mike Macklin she applauds the fact Attorney General Garland's decision.

"We have always stood for transparency and accountability," Rep. Clark said. "I appreciate that President Biden and his attorneys are making this public and trying to comply in every way they can."

The Justice Department is investigating both President Biden and Former President Donald Trump for their handling of classified documents. The FBI raided the Florida home of Former President Trump last September and recovered hundreds of classified documents.

Rep. Clark said Republicans are not holding Former President Trump to the same standard as President Biden.

"It is noteworthy that my republican colleagues across the aisle are applying two very different standards to the hundreds of documents that were at Mar A Lago and the failure to comply with subpoenas and cooperate with the Department of Justice," Rep. Clark said.

WBZ'S Mike Macklin reports.
