HULL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – A local filmmaker is combining her passion for documentary work with her health and wellness advocacy into one venture.

Lori Tobin was inspired to make a documentary about the dangers of vaping after witnessing preteens in her hometown taking advantage of the device.

“I was driving through town [and] I see one of the kids that’s been in my exercise program,” Tobin explained. “This plume of smoke came out of this kid and I thought, ‘this is not okay.’”

The documentarian gathered facts and talked to kids who had been severely injured from excessive vaping. The result was a self-produced film called “Taking A Toke.”

The documentary “takes viewers into the challenged journey of many moms fighting a battle for their children,” according to the film’s website.

It explores now vaping was originally introduced as a safe alternative to smoking, but targeted younger people and impacted their health, families and peace of mind.

“By interviewing leading pediatricians, activists, and other experts in the area, this film is intended to inform parents and policymakers on the hidden harms of underage vaping,” the site continued.
