BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Less than a week before the Boston Marathon and many Massachusetts schools’ April vacations, the Massachusetts Port Authority announced various transportation recommendations and travel tips in preparation for increased passengers at the Boston Logan Airport.

The 128th Boston Marathon is happening on Monday, April 15. At the same time, Boston Public Schools and other school systems in the Commonwealth have spring recess starting on Monday through the end of the week.

Massport said that parking sites at Logan and Logan Express will be near capacity ahead of these events, and people can find up-to-date parking conditions at the Massport website and the FlyLogan app.

They strongly encouraged passengers to take alternate transit to the airport, such as the MBTA’s Blue and Silver Lines, the water ferry, Logan Express, and other bus options.

Silver Line service from Logan to the city is free, as well as the Back Bay Logan Express.

The Logan Express serves four other locations as well: Framingham, Woburn, Braintree, and Peabody.

Massport also provided general travel tips for people headed to the airport, saying that passengers should plan to arrive two hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights.

And although there may be “periods of robust activity” at the TSA checkpoints, Massport explained that “those lines generally move quickly.”

Another tip was to check the TSA website to make sure travelers are not taking any banned items with them through security, which can slow down the process.

Passengers can download the free FlyLogan app for airport and flight information, they said.

Massport mentioned the possibility of adverse weather as well. “Though the weather for the upcoming week looks fine – it’s New England.”

In general, Massport said that before going to the airport, travelers should check with their airline to get the most updated information about their trip.
