LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The city of Lowell used crowd and state funding to spruce up a park that is named after author Jack Kerouac.
The city raised $25,000 through crowd-funding, an amount that MassDevelopment matched. Lowell’s special events coordinator Roberto Dei said that allowed them to purchase a couple of huge shipping containers, one of which will be a stage for performances in the park.
Dei said the objective is to “transform Kerouac Park into a hub of activity for residents of the downtown area, and hopefully we’ll be able to attract also people from surrounding areas.”
A concrete ping pong table, chess table, and bag toss games will also be installed.
