LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The nonprofit Lynn Music Foundation provides resources and support to local musicians and aspiring artists, especially to the underserved music communities of Lynn.

“We’re here to support local artists. Lynn is a very creative city," said the executive director, Edwin Cabrera.

Cabrera is a Lynn native and filmmaker who is specifically passionate about “promoting independent music and uplifting the hip hop culture in Lynn,” explained the foundation’s website.

The Lynn Music Foundation was founded in 2022 by Cabrera, Chris Martin, and Jay Moon to help artists in Lynn reach their fullest potential through a collaborative and supportive environment that also provides performance opportunities, music education, and mentorship.

The organization is partnered with the Mass Cultural Council and MassDevelopment among other groups, said their website.

Recently, they launched new workshops this spring for musicians of all ages. They last for 10 to 12 weeks and are free of charge.

Part of the goal of the workshops and other programming is to help artists to command the stage during a performance.

“That kind of confidence is the thing I’ve been seeing the most. It seems like every artist that I’ve started following years ago has grown so much,” shared Cabrera.

He said he wants artists who come to the foundation to be able to “express [themselves] creatively and musically, and then have a support group with [them] to be able to help bring that out.”

The workshops are for “both the youth community in Lynn but also the creators who don’t really have a space to express themselves,” explained Cabrera.

The Lynn Music Foundation has their own recording studio in Lynn located in the old WFNX radio station, along with a multipurpose theater space for everything from live music to film productions.
