LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The rain may have prevented the celebration from being held outdoors, but city and state officials still gathered to make official the 'permanent protection' of Lynn Woods.
Inside the historic Lynn City Council Chambers on Thursday, officials were celebrating the move to protect Lynn Woods which was made possible by the granting of a 'conservation restriction' to the Department of Conservation and Recreation and Greenbelt, a land trust that manages many open spaces across Essex County.
Greenbelt's Vanessa Johnson-Hall said this milestone for Lynn Woods has been years in the making. "This is an amazing celebration for all those who have been involved over the decades to ensure Lynn Woods is available forever to residents of Lynn and beyond to enjoy the peace and quiet of woodlands in their backyard."
The protections not only ensure that Lynn Woods with its many hiking trails will stay open to the public but will also help maintain the quality of the reservoirs used for Lynn's water supply.
