PORT CLYDE, Maine (WBZ NewsRadio) — A lighthouse on the Maine Coast featured in the movie 'Forrest Gump' has gone dark after getting hit by lightning last week.

Officials say the circuitry of the Marshall Point Lighthouse in Point Clyde was 'fried' after getting hit by lightning knocking out its light and foghorn.

The lighthouse was established in 1832.

It was featured in the Forrest Gump movie signifying when Gump, played by Tom Hanks, reached the East Coast finish line of a cross-country run and kept on running.

Officials say the lighthouse will remain without power until the Coast Guard makes repairs.

WBZ's Chaiel Schaffel (@ChaielShaffelWBZ) reports.
