As people in the second car got out, Sweatt started to drive away, but then he made a U-turn, sped towards them, and slammed into the victim, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office said.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Sweatt pleaded not guilty in Framingham District Court on Friday to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, operating to endanger, and a marked lanes violation.

The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, Hopkinton Police, and Massachusetts State Police units are investigating.
