MARBLEHEAD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Marblehead runner completed the Abbott World Marathon Majors "Six Star Journey" in March.
The circuit requires runners to finish marathons in Boston, Tokyo, New York City, London, Chicago and Berlin.
AnneMette Bontaites, 52, said her road to the Six Star medal started with "baby steps" more than 10 years ago.
"If you have it in your brain to do it, just do it," Bontaites said. "Just sign up."
She started the Six Star Journey at the New York City Marathon in 2014. She finished the race in 4 hours and 44.17 minutes, according to Abbott data.
Bontaites completed the gauntlet at the Tokyo Marathon with a time of 4:54.53.
She raised money for children with disabilities, pediatric cancer patients and other causes at each race on the six-leg circuit.
The Denmark-native lives in Marblehead, Mass. with her husband and her three children.
Abbott World Marathon Majors first awarded Six Star medals in 2016.
8,143 runners had completed the challenge by the end of 2022, according to Runner's World.
