Mass. Black Expo Wraps Up Virtually With Angela Davis, Sen. Warren

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — This year’s Massachusetts Black Expo, organized by the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, wrapped up Sunday with a couple of big names, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, taking the virtual stage.

Much of the focus of the Expo Sunday was on systemic racism, and of course, COVID-19 was a big part of the discussion.

"2020 has made it painfully clear what Black Americans have always known; that systemic racism pervades every part of our society."

Sen. Warren said the pandemic has shown us that our health care system is unequal right down to its core.

"Black communities have experience a death rate at nearly twice the rate of white communities," Warren added.

Longtime revolutionary Angela Davis was Sunday’s keynote speaker. She said the election of Joe Biden is just the first step toward ending systemic racism in the U.S.

"We have, at least for the moment, managed to repel the threat of encroaching fascism," Davis said. "But so much more remains to be done."
