Mass. Included In Brightfarms Brand Crunch Kit, Baby Spinach Recall

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts is one of several states listed in a voluntary spinach recall from the brand Brightfarms over concern of a possible Listeria exposure and cross-contamination.

The products in question are crunch kits and baby spinach, packaged in plastic containers ranging from 3.5 to 6.7 ounces. A pull order has already been issued to retailers like Stop & Shop and Wegmans, all of the potentially afflicted items have best-by dates in January.

According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, there have been no illnesses reported as of posting. Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia are the other states listed in this recall.

Officials say a routine test for Listeria came back positive at the supplier Element Farms in NJ, and there are additional cross-contamination concerns at a packaging facility in PA.
