BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Returning from his trip to Poland, Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey held a Saturday press briefing to share the discussions he had overseas on the allied response to Vladimir Putin's unjust war of aggression in Ukraine.

Markey told WBZ's Mike Macklin that he met with United States military leaders and troops, diplomats, European Union officials, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization leaders during his trip.

"I think Putin has bitten off more than he can chew. I think that the spirit of the Ukrainian people is their greatest asset as long as they get the resources they need in order to resist Putin's invasion," Markey said.

Markey went on to say that he believes that the EU and NATO should continue to provide both humanitarian aid to refugees and military equipment to Ukraine's forces.

"We must continue to provide the resources," Markey said, "so that they can continue to fight back against Russia, as they are committing atrocities that are the equivalent of the worst things that have ever happened in the history of humanity."

Markey said that the U.S position and message to Russia should be clear: Russia's aggression will not be tolerated.

WBZ's Mike Macklin reports.
