BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed another 968 cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 144,895.
The state DPH reported an additional 19 deaths among confirmed cases of the virus, upping the Commonwealth's COVID-related death toll to 9,608.
The DPH has also reported 3,390 probable cases in the state, and 222 deaths among probable cases.
Several important coronavirus metrics have been on the rise in Massachusetts over the past month, including the positive test rate and the average number of people hospitalized with the virus. 570 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 Friday, up from 361 patients hospitalized a month ago.
The state's three-day average number of COVID-19 deaths has also increased by more than 75 percent since the end of September.
According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center, the U.S. has confirmed nearly 8.5 million cases of COVID-19, and more than 223,000 Americans have died from the virus to date.
