BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed another 5,675 cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Commonwealth to 259,324.
More than 61,000 cases of the virus are estimated to be active in Massachusetts, according to the DPH.
The state's seven-day average rate of positive coronavirus tests has risen to nearly 5.9 percent, which is almost double the average rate of positive tests reported at the start of November.
The state DPH also reported another 89 deaths among confirmed cases of the virus, upping he state's total confirmed COVID-death toll to 10,922. There have also been 244 deaths among probable cases.
Both ICU and non-ICU hospital beds in Massachusetts are filling up quickly, according to the DPH. More than 80 percent of non-ICU beds in the state are currently occupied, and 65 percent of the Commonwealth's ICU beds are full.
According to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, more than 15.3 million cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the U.S., and more than 288,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
