BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With former President Donald Trump facing a historic indictment in Manhattan, reaction is pouring in from around the Massachusetts political world. Most of the Massachusetts congressional delegation that commented was firmly in favor of the indictment.

Trump has been under investigation by a Manhattan Grand Jury for hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren told CBS Mornings that the indictment was a good sign for the rule of law.

"A foundational piece of our democracy is holding — that it is possible to have an independent investigation to go wherever the facts lead, and then to follow the process through," she said.

Congressman Jim McGovern was harsher on Trump in a fiery statement released on Thursday night.

"How could anyone be surprised? His campaign manager, deputy campaign manager, chief strategist, national security advisor, personal lawyer, and accountant are all convicted felons. Like a mob boss, he surrounded himself with a cult of criminals who took the fall for him—and now the jig is up," he wrote.

MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale said Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg was "abusing his office for political gain," and said Bragg should focus instead on the "safety of New Yorkers."
