BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The holidays always make the airports busy, but this year could be the busiest of them all.

According to projections from AAA, there will be more than 100 million people traveling 50 miles or more this holiday season. If their projections hold true, it will be the second highest number of travelers since they started tracking holiday travel in 2000.

Airports are expected to be the busiest they’ve ever been, with AAA projecting 7.5 million air travelers between Dec. 23 and Jan. 1.

WBZ NewsRadio’s James Rojas spoke to travelers at Logan and asked why they decided to get a head start.

“Because by then, I will have already left for Maui,” said one woman not looking to get caught in the airport traffic.

“I usually travel about this time. That’s the nice thing about being retired, you can go when you want,” said another woman.

“My classes just ended. I’m in grad school, so I’m taking the first opportunity out,” said one student.
