BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Bicyclists may end up seeing flashing lights on the side of their bike route in Jamaica Plain Tuesday night, and it may benefit them to stop and find out what's going on.

The #LightBrigade, at the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition (MassBike), said they're flagging down cyclists who look like they might have a hard time seeing and being seen by others.

Volunteers at MassBike said they will be handing out free front and back bicycle lights starting at dusk over by the Forest Hills T Station.

"It's like a real feel-good way to kind of help out individual riders in real time," said MassBike Executive Director Galen Mook. "We're saying, 'hey thanks for riding, would you like a free set of bike lights?' People say, 'wait a minute, what?' My hunch is we're probably going to get eight out of ten folks who we call out are going to stop and talk with us," Mook said.

MassBike said they're operating throughout the state passing out free lights, even working with local police to spread the word on bike safety. MassBike also said they're accepting volunteers for the lights giveaway, and post regular videos on bike safety and news on their YouTube channel.
