Man Held Without Bail In Mattapan Bike Path Assault

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts State Police say they made an arrest in the assault of a 47-year-old Dorchester woman that happened on the Neponset Bike Path in Mattapan last month.

Dwyarrn Burton, 26, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the September 17 attack.

State Police said Burton assaulted the woman after he asked her for a cigarette and she didn't give him one. They said Burton and the victim didn't know one another, and the assault was completely random.

The victim told police a man knocked her to the ground, hit her several times, and tried to drag her into the trees. She was taken to an area hospital with cuts and bruises on her head.

Police used the woman's description, as well as info from their own investigation, to create a profile of the attacker to send to other agencies.
