Moderna: New Data Shows Vaccine Can Last 3 Months In Regular Refrigerator

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cambridge-based biotech company Moderna announced Thursday new data shows their vaccine can sustain a longer shelf life in a regular refrigerator.

Moderna said the vaccine can last up to three months in a normal refrigerator. Currently, it approved for up to one month in a regular refrigerator and up to seven months in a standard freezer.

The company also announced a goal of increasing global supply of their vaccine to 3 billion doses by 2022.

In 2021, they expect an increase of 800 million to 1 billion doses.

Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said that as we follow the spread of coronavirus variants, the company believes there will be “significant need” for their vaccine and variant booster candidates in the upcoming years.

“We thank our manufacturing partners for their work and their commitment. Together with our partners, Moderna is committed to continuously developing best-in-class variant boosters so we can end this pandemic as fast as possible,” Bancel said.
