BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 1,316 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Sunday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 539,644.
The state DPH also reported another 46 deaths among COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts, upping the state's confirmed coronavirus death toll to 15,508. There have also been 318 deaths reported among probable cases of the virus in the state.
The state's weekly average rate of positive COVID-19 tests has declined from around 3.4 percent at the start of February to less than 1.9 percent on Sunday Feb. 21st.
The estimated number of active cases of the virus in Massachusetts, signifying the number of patients with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in the past 21 days, has dropped to 35,874.
There are currently 927 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across the Commonwealth, 234 of whom are receiving intensive care. 153 are intubated.
According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Research Center, the U.S. has confirmed more than 28.1 million cases of COVID-19, and more than 498,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
